President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to fast-track research into psychedelic drugs, CNBC reported.
The research will focus on psychedelic treatments for serious mental illness.
Trump had signed an executive order on Saturday to direct federal health agencies to expand research and access to emerging therapies.
Psychedelics have been used to help conditions such as treatment-resistant depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and other substance use disorders.
The FDA said it would issue national priority vouchers to companies studying psilocybin for depression and methylone for PTSD.
The FDA said the studies do not mean the drugs are approved or proven safe and effective.
