Seven family-run businesses were recognized Thursday in the annual Family Business Awards dinner at the Madison Marriott West in Middleton.
They were among 21 Wisconsin companies who were competing for the annual awards, with nominees representing first- through fifth-generation companies.
Grand Award winners and their categories included:
• Hartung Brothers, Inc., Madison (Large Company, 100+ companies.
• Hydro-Thermal Corp., Waukesha (Medium Company, 50-99 employees)
• Timbergreen Farm, Spring Green (Small Company, 1-49 employees)
Special awards were presented to the following businesses, with categories in parenthesis:
• Friede & Associates, LLC, Reedsburg (Building Commitment)
• J. P. Cullen & Sons, Inc., Janesville (Pride Award)
• Patch Products, Beloit (Work Hard – Play Hard)
• Glorious Malone’s Fine Sausage, Inc., Milwaukee (Glorious Recipe for Success)
Winners were selected by a panel of independent judges, based on criteria such as positive links between family and business, contribution to community and industry, and innovative practices.
The award program was developed and is sponsored by Smith & Gesteland, a Madison-based CPA and consulting firm and a founding sponsor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Family Business Center.
