The plan to have the Air National Guard begin flying a fleet of new F-35 fighter jets from Truax Field in 2023 has many housing developments being reevaluated, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. Without significant soundproofing, noise levels from the flight path are expected to be too loud for some residential developments. This conflicts with the city’s plan calling for high-density housing that would both provide equitable access and support a new bus rapid transit. A city council workgroup has been appointed to explore possible alternatives to prevent poor and minority residents from having to bear a disproportionate share of the environmental impacts.
