In light of a “highly impactful” winter storm expected to bring as much as a foot of snow to Madison and much of southern Wisconsin, school closures have gone into effect, trash and recycling pickup has been postponed, and road crews have begun salting major roads, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The snow is expected to persist through Wednesday morning.
The storm is expected to cover a broad area stretching from southeastern Colorado and western Kansas to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The area along Lake Michigan may avoid heavy snow as the relatively warm lake water will hold totals to a few inches.
The city of Madison, Dane County, and other local governmental agencies, as well as businesses and other organizations, have also announced suspension of nonessential operations. Emergency services will not be affected. Metro Transit will continue to operate, but riders should expect delays.
