The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), which in October issued draft guidelines calling Exact Sciences Cologuard test for colon cancer an “alternative” rather than main screening test, revised its final report in the Madison company’s favor.
Cologuard, a non-invasive, blood- and DNA-based stool test should now be considered on the same level as other screening tests, the USPSTF decided, after acknowledging that each screening test has its advantages and disadvantages.
The final ruling gives Exact Sciences more leverage when negotiating with insurance companies to pay for the test.
