Exact Sciences reported a loss of $16.1 million (23 cents/share) in the first quarter, compared to a loss of $10.9 million (17 cents/share) for the same period in 2013. Revenue fell from $1 million in 2013 to $300,000 due to the end of booking payments related to a collaboration with Genzyme Corp. Operating expenses for the quarter ending March 31, 2014 were $16.5 million, compared to $11.9 million a year earlier. Exact Sciences is preparing — pending FDA approval — to market its noninvasive, DNA-based test for colon cancer.
