The vacant Spectrum Brands building in Madison could be occupied with more than 400 Exact Sciences employees later this fall, but it may not be a permanent situation.

According to a Wisconsin State Journal report, the company has apparently signed a three-year lease and is still considering a Fitchburg location, as well.

Reportedly, Exact Sciences recently applied to the city of Madison for $2.5 million in tax incremental financing to help it pay for a $57.3 million remodeling project that would include building a new lab. It is also expected to submit a TIF request to Fitchburg, as well.

Exact Sciences, manufacturer of the Cologuard at-home test for colorectal cancer, is planning for continued growth. It employs about 750 workers in Madison and wants to hire 200 more.
