Gov. Tony Evers is traveling across the state this week to highlight initiatives in his 2025-27 Executive Budget announced last month, which makes sweeping changes to the health care industry. These changes include:
-
Making Wisconsin the first state in America to start auditing insurance companies over denying Wisconsinites’ health care claims;
-
Creating an office that, for the first time in state history, would be devoted to helping Wisconsinites hold health insurers accountable and ensuring people get the health insurance coverage they pay for;
-
Implementing new standards to expand the health care services and procedures that insurance companies are required to cover;
Advertisement -
Requiring health insurance companies to disclose which services and treatments will require prior approval before Wisconsinites select a health plan;
-
Enabling the creation of statewide standards for maximum wait times for scheduling appointments;
-
Requiring health providers to give Wisconsinites notice of unpaid medical bills and a six-month grace period before reporting unpaid medical debt to collections or credit bureaus; and
-
Banning health insurance companies from requiring preapproval for inpatient mental health services so Wisconsinites in crisis can receive life-saving care.
