Gov. Tony Evers has appointed Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) staff member Kristy Nieto to a one-year term as PSC commissioner to fill one of two vacancies on the three-person panel regulating Wisconsin’s power and water utilities and telecommunications services, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The move follows the state Senate’s dismissal of Commissioner Tyler Huebner on Friday. Nieto has worked at the PSC for 10 years and will begin her new role on Feb. 2.
The commission’s turnover also includes Chairwoman Rebecca Cameron Valcq’s Jan. 11 announcement that she would step down Feb. 2, a year before her term ends. Evers appointed Commissioner Summer Strand as the new chairperson. The Senate confirmed Strand’s six-year appointment at the same meeting in which it rejected Huebner’s.
