Evers announces $2.38 billion in capital budget recommendations

In the proposed 202123 state budget, Gov. Tony Evers is recommending $2.38 billion in capital budget investments for the state’s facility infrastructure, according to a release from the administration. The projects supported by the funding are located in 31 counties across the state. Key areas addressed by the investments include:  

  • UW System facilities;
  • Correctional and health services facilities;
  • State parks and forests, and upgrades to fire response ranger stations;
  • Veterans homes and improvements to veteran cemeteries;
  • Reinvigorating the energy conservation investment in state facilities and emphasizing the installation of renewable energy capabilities;
  • Redeveloping Block 108 (currently GEF 1) in Madison for a potential colocated museum and replacement of a downtown Madison state office building;
  • Consolidating state agency functions into a new Milwaukee state office building; and
  • Supporting local community projects with a statewide public purpose such as the Kenosha STEM Innovation Center, Milwaukee Museum of Nature and Culture, and Beyond Vision VisABILITY Center.
