The Esquire Supper Club in Madison announced Monday it is closing after the death of owner John P. Kavanaugh II.
“There is no way to replace the man that made the Esquire feel like home to so many,” a statement on social media said.
According to WKOW, Kavanaugh’s daughter, Jackie Kavanaugh, said the business would be closed until Feb. 1 to figure out its next steps before this latest announcement was made.
Kavanaugh died Jan. 13. The 1025 N. Sherman Ave. business opened in 1947, and briefly closed once before in February 2025.
