Verona’s Epic Systems is partnering with the Trump administration on a new health tech initiative, The Capital Times reports.

The federal initiative, to be overseen by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, will develop a new set of electronic health tools with the goal of building “smarter, more secure and more personalized health care experience(s),” the administration said last month.

The project’s focus areas include expanding access to personalized tools aiding patients in understanding their medical information, and promoting a federal network that would coordinate the secure exchange and use of information among health systems.

Epic is the maker of MyChart, a health records software used by providers across Wisconsin and the globe. The company employs roughly 13,000 people at its 1,600-acre campus.

Seth Howard, the company’s vice president of research and development, said that as Epic is a leader in electronic health records, “when the (Trump) administration put forth a proposal to help drive both helping more patients access data and to increase the use of interoperability, we felt it was important for us to be there.”

He said the company will likely play a “complementary” role, possibly connecting federal agencies to networks.
