Verona-based Epic Systems Corp. has entered into a partnership with Apple to create HealthKit, a new platform that will allow members of health care organizations using Epic software to plug results from their health and fitness apps into their MyChart personal health records. Patients could also determine how much of the information they would want to share with their doctors. Apple would back up the database, which would be securely encrypted. HealthKit is expected to be available to customers using the new IOS 8 versions of the iPad and iPhone coming out this fall.
