The ongoing tiff between Enbridge Energy and Dane County isn’t over yet, as the Canadian oil company is now asking the county to remove all references to oil spill insurance from its pipeline permit.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, the spill insurance requirements the county originally imposed were invalidated by a provision in the state budget passed in July that forbade such insurance requirements. However, on Sept. 29 the county restored the requirements to the permit along with a note specifying the state’s policy.
Enbridge, which is planning to run pipes through Dane County as part of a bigger project to increase the flow of oil through its pipeline, has appealed to the County Board the overturn the insurance requirement.
