The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. will provide the Swiss-based Emmi Roth Kase’s up to $500,000 in tax credits for its new artisanal cheese plant in Platteville, and a $600,000 loan to assist with possible expansion.

Emmi-Roth Kase broke ground this spring and will invest approximately $43 million in the expansion. The company is expected to initially employ about 30 people in a 77,000-square-foot facility in the Platteville Industrial Park, with the potential to expand to as many as 60 full-time positions.

The company will produce Grand Cru cheese, a type of Gruyere, which recently won a number of top awards at the International Cheese Competition in Madison, Wis.

Paul Jadin, CEO and secretary of WEDC, said the project adds value to Wisconsin’s milk production, and it helps maintain Wisconsin’s position as a leading artisanal cheese state.
