Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce announced that Appleton-based Pierce Manufacturing’s electric fire truck has won this year’s Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin top award. Pierce Manufacturing is the largest fire apparatus company in the world and its Volterra pumper is the first zero-emission electric fire truck in service in North America.
The Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin contest began in 2016 to highlight manufacturing in the state and this year garnered over 1.1 million votes from Wisconsinites across the state. Wisconsin is home to roughly 9,000 manufacturing facilities, employing nearly one in six Wisconsin workers and contributing over $68 billion to the state economy.
