Ridership of Madison BCycle more than doubled in 2019 after the company converted the fleet to e-bikes, which use battery-powered motors to give riders a boost, according to a report by the Wisconsin State Journal. BCycle, a division of Trek Bicycles, has owned and operated Madison’s bike-share system since 2011 and saw a 64 percent increase in users in 2019. The increase was a direct result of the e-bikes, and BCycle plans to add another 100 e-bikes this year.
