Mexican restaurant El Sabor de Puebla is opening a second location in a large north side space formerly home to Benvenuto’s Italian Grill, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The 7,600-square-foot spot located at 1849 Northport Drive will undergo a few aesthetic updates before opening but does not require renovations and could open by the end of July.
The restaurant will have the same name and menu as its other location. It has a 220-person capacity and is set to be open from 10 a.m.–10 p.m. every day.
Co-owners Reyna Gonzalez Torres and Waldo Olguin Galeana also own Tamaleria el Poblano, a wholesale tamale business on Dempsey Road; the couple plan to close that operation, which currently supplies El Sabor de Puebla, all three Willy Street Co-ops, and some local Mexican markets and taquerias. They said running all three businesses would be too much, but they will still make tamales for their restaurants and events and plan to be vendors at the future Madison Public Market.
