The demand and prices for eggs are increasing locally and nationwide, according to WMTV15. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Price Index shows an almost 38% increase in egg prices over the last year.
Avian flu and a subsequent decrease in the national supply of egg-laying chickens are key reasons behind the trend. Demand for protein and eggs is reportedly also at a record high.
The USDA says consumers may see rising prices throughout 2025.
