Eggs see record-high demand, low supply locally, nationwide

The demand and prices for eggs are increasing locally and nationwide, according to WMTV15. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Price Index shows an almost 38% increase in egg prices over the last year.

Avian flu and a subsequent decrease in the national supply of egg-laying chickens are key reasons behind the trend. Demand for protein and eggs is reportedly also at a record high.

The USDA says consumers may see rising prices throughout 2025.
