Edwin Martini, the current provost at UW-Oshkosh, was chosen as UW-Eau Claire’s new chancellor, the UW Board of Regents announced Wednesday.

Martini will assume the leadership post on July 1, taking over for James Schmidt, who served as chancellor from 2013 until 2025.

“I’m thrilled that Dr. Ed Martini is joining UW-Eau Claire as its next chancellor,” Regent Karen Walsh, chair of the search and screen committee, said in a statement. “He brings a collegial and collaborative approach to leadership, and he is poised to advance the university’s mission on day one. I’m also excited that Ed becomes our latest homegrown chancellor, which is an indication of the talent we cultivate at the Universities of Wisconsin.”

Before joining UWO, Martini held leadership roles at Western Michigan University.
