Edgerton-based nonprofit Craftsman with Character (CWC) launched a statewide fundraising campaign to support the next generation of skilled tradespeople. The organization is working to expand its workforce development program, which connects high school students with mentors, hands-on learning and career opportunities in the trades.
The new campaign invites individuals to donate and fund program growth in more schools, communities and businesses to become corporate sponsors. To learn more or contribute, click here.
Through CWC, students gain direct experience with local businesses, preparing them for careers in fields like manufacturing, construction, welding, electrical, automotive and more. Since expanding beyond Edgerton in 2022, over 250 students, 60 businesses and 18 schools across Wisconsin, North Carolina and Texas have completed the program.
Following the 2024-25 school year, 69% of business partners are hiring or planning to hire a CWC student; 89% of students said the class gave them clear direction for their future; and 60% plan to pursue further training in a trade.
CWC’s growth in recent years has been supported in part by a multiyear grant from the U.S. Navy.
