According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ latest employment report, nonfarm employment increased by 257,000 jobs in January, with the unemployment rate virtually unchanged at 5.7%. Leading the charge were the retail trade, construction, health care, financial, and manufacturing sectors.
After a 5-cent decline in December, the average hourly earnings of all private, nonfarm employees rose by 12 cents to $24.75.
