A report released July 28 by a Washington, D.C., lobbying group, the Beer Institute, and the National Beer Wholesalers Association, indicates the impact of beer in the Badger State is down from prior years.
According to the report, beer had an $8 billion impact on Wisconsin’s economy in 2014, a decline from $8.6 billion in 2012.
In 2014 Wisconsin’s beer industry accounted for 56,454 jobs, down from 60,630 in 2012. Wages were also down, at $2.18 billion compared to $2.2 billion in 2012. However, beer’s direct economic impact rose slightly to $3.56 billion from $3.54 billion in 2012.
Nationally, the report showed beer had a $252 billion economic impact compared to $246.6 billion in 2012, but the total number of jobs decreased to 1.7 million from 2 million.
The study included production, retail sales, taxes, and suppliers to the industry.
