The Woodman’s Market on Madison’s east side was set to reopen at 6 a.m. Wednesday after clogged roof drains caused a partial roof collapse during strong rains late Monday, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The fire department said water that had pooled on the flat roof of the 230,000-square-foot store during the rainstorm collapsed a section of roof and dumped a massive quantity of water into the middle of the store.
While no one was injured during the incident, damage to the building at 3817 Milwaukee St. was extensive. On its Facebook page, Woodman’s said, “The response and support from our staff, contractors and the broader community have been nothing short of exceptional.”
While the east side location was closed, the store waived online shopping service charges for its Sun Prairie and Madison West locations.
