East side Madison’s Glass Nickel Pizza Co. is expanding into the former laundromat next door, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The restaurant was originally opened in November 1997 at 2049 Atwood Ave. and moved to its current spot at 2916 Atwood Ave. in 2001.
Following the closure of the laundromat, the owners took the building down to the studs and added new floor joists and roof trusses. The renovated space will now house an employee breakroom, a new dish room, additional prep and delivery areas, enhanced heating and cooling, and increased storage. It will also have shared office space for the restaurant and serve as Glass Nickel’s headquarters.
Christensen Construction is doing the work on the expansion, according to the owners.
Glass Nickel Pizza has nine franchises — all in Wisconsin, and all owned and operated by previous employees.
