East side Madison’s Change, a women’s boutique that focuses on fair trade fashion and accessories, is set to close in March, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The store at 1252 Williamson St. is closing for a number of reasons, including staff shortages following the pandemic. Additionally, in 2021, an SUV crashed into the business’s storefront.
The store has offered items from fair trade vendors across the world since its opening in 2012. It has also hosted events during which artisan brands tell their stories and screenings of documentary films about the fair trade industry.
Change’s three employees are part-time and will be minimally impacted by the closure. The store’s hours will remain the same throughout January and February, open from 11 a.m.–5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays as well as 11 a.m.–6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays.
