A surge of 795,000 unemployment claims since March 15 to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) totals nearly three times the total number of claims the department received in all of 2019, according to a WisBusiness.com report.
The DWD has hired and trained 1,400 new staff to help process the claims but is still facing a backlog.
