The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has been making progress in processing unemployment claims, according to a report at Madison.com.
The state has paid out more than $30 million in benefits to more than 100,000 people in the past week. At its peak, the unemployment hotlines were getting more than 100 calls per second.
To handle the surge in calls, the DWD has hired more than 200 people and has made IT and telecom improvements.
