A new budget proposal from State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly could invest nearly $60 million in the recruitment and retention of Wisconsin educators, WMTV15 reports.
Key points of the proposal, part of Undery’s 2025–27 Biennial Budget, include:

Stipends of $10,000 for eligible student teachers to help cover expenses and debts;

A new state-funded program aimed at growing the workforce; and

An expanded new educator support program.
Barriers to obtaining a teaching license would also be examined and reformed as necessary.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) found that roughly four in 10 educators leave the state or profession within their first six years of teaching.
