Darin Burreson, the owner/operator of several small grocery stores across Wisconsin has purchased downtown Madison’s Capitol Centre Market at the corner of West Mifflin and Broom streets, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
Burreson’s daughter, Kensie Burreson, will assist the endeavor. They have no major changes in mind for the store, which will retain its name and 50-employee staff. Owner Mitch Eveland is retiring after over 50 years in the grocery industry. He has owned Capitol Centre Market since 2007, when he bought it from original owners John and Peg Leemkuil.
Eveland will continue to own the Capitol Centre Market building, leasing the property to Burreson. Inventory for the grocery store will continue to be purchased from Certco, an independent grocery wholesaler co-op founded in 1930.
