Hurricane Melissa has left about 50 dead and caused insured losses as high as $4.2 billion in Jamaica, and businesses like the Door County Candle Company are trying to help those affected, according to UpNorthNews.
The candle maker recently launched its Jamaican Relief Candle, with 100% of the profits going toward relief efforts.
A portion of every purchase from the company gets donated to charity. The company recently raised over $1.6 million with its Ukraine Candle to help those affected by Russia’s attack on the country and subsequent war.
Other candles released have donated funds to those affected by the Texas floods and Maui wildfires.
The Jamaican Relief Candle features a tropical passionfruit and liliko’i scent.
“We are deeply saddened by the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa,” a statement said on the company’s website. “In response, we are introducing our Jamaica Candle. Through our Candles Creating Change program, we’ve raised over $1 million for various relief efforts, including hurricanes.”
