The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced it has awarded a team of researchers at the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a grant to advance next-generation concentrating solar-thermal power (CSP) technologies and industrial decarbonization technologies. As part of the DOE’s Industrial Decarbonization Roadmap and recently launched Industrial Heat Shot, $24 million has been awarded to 10 research teams for 10 separate projects. The projects support the DOE’s $100 million ongoing efforts to develop next-generation CSP plants, which can generate low-cost electricity at any time of day. The UW team will receive $3.1 million for a project aimed at developing a prototype heat exchanger using advanced design and manufacturing techniques.
