A former Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin doctor has agreed to pay $110,000 to settle federal civil allegations, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.

Dr. David E. Eckerle settled the case alleging that he wrote prescriptions for opioids and other controlled substances with no legitimate medical purpose. A GHC-SCW spokesperson said Eckerle did not treat patients during the federal investigation and is no longer an employee of the group.
