A proposal from the City of Fitchburg to develop 985.9 acres in the city’s northeast corner has been thwarted by a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources decision to approve an expanded urban service area on just 375 of the acres, according to a story in The Capital Times.

Opponents of Fitchburg’s original proposal argued that the development, mostly east of Highway MM, would negatively affect wetlands and nearby Lake Waubesa.
