Over $18 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Defense would help soundproof 162 east Madison homes near F-35 fighter jets at Madison’s Truax Field, The Capital Times reports. The Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs (DMA) recently submitted the application, which says the soundproofing would take roughly three years to complete.
Still, state officials say they don’t know if they will be able to soundproof more than 1,000 other area homes which have contended with the noise since the next-generation fighter jets’ arrival in April 2023.
Additional noise mitigation funding in the future is not guaranteed, but DMA reportedly plans to continue to apply.
