The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) launched a housing support services Medicaid benefit that will help Wisconsin Medicaid members experiencing housing insecurity and challenges with substance use or mental health. The benefit will start Feb. 1, 2025, and comes as a result of 2019 Wisconsin Act 76.
To be eligible recipients, individuals must:

Be current Wisconsin Medicaid recipients;

Be 18 years of age or older;

Meet the criteria for any of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s four categories under 42 U.S.C. 11302 of homelessness;

Have at least one health-related issue, substance use, or mental health condition;

Fall within 150% of the federal poverty level; and
-
Require assistance with at least two instrumental activities of daily living due to homelessness, substance use, or mental health needs.

Services available will include:

Housing consultations to help individuals develop a housing support plan;

Transition supports to help individuals move to new housing;

Relocation supports that provide financial assistance for the move; and
