A proposed $7 million, four-story housing and commercial project from developer Brandon Cook is getting mixed reviews from nearby residents, according to a Wisconsin State Journalreport. The proposed project, which is near Glenway Golf Course, would house 31 apartments, 816 square feet of commercial space, and 24 underground parking spots at the location of a former Stop-N-Go gas station at 3734 Speedway Road. Several neighbors support the project, citing housing needs in Madison, but others oppose the project stating that it eliminates the former commercial use and doesn’t fit city plans. The proposed three-story building would have nine studios, 14 one-bedroom units, eight two-bedroom apartments, and a community room with a walk-out deck on the fourth floor. The gas station and convenience store at the location was built in 1966 and remodeled in 1992. It has been closed since August 2021.
