Madison’s Determination to Succeed program will host its inaugural Community Mentoring Awards Banquet at Goodman Community Center on April 11 from 6-9 p.m., Madison365 reports. The event will honor Madisonians who have provided mentorship to area youth.
Over the past month, community members have placed votes in five different mentorship categories to select three finalists for each. Voting continues through March 28, and those with the highest votes among finalists in each category will be recognized at the upcoming banquet.
Keynote speakers will include Dr. Rainey Briggs and Kaylahn Jones. Briggs, most recently the superintendent of Baraboo Schools, was named among Wisconsin’s 48 Most Influential Black Leaders in 2021 by Madison365. Jones worked for two years at Madison’s Exact Sciences as a biomedical engineer, where she worked in the company’s COVID testing and Cologuard labs.
The banquet will also raise money to help the Determination to Succeed program fund other initiatives, including its second annual Back2School Summit, an all-day event for Black male youth, which features a variety of Madison professionals in a series of panels and workshops.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Tickets can be purchased until April 6.
