After several years of studies that divided the community, the U.S. Air Force will send a squadron of F-35 fighter jets to the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing in Madison. The planes are scheduled to arrive in Wisconsin in 2023.
Proponents of the Air Force’s decision cite jobs and new construction, while opponents voiced concerns about noise in nearby neighborhoods, and air and water pollution.
The Air Force’s decision was commended by supporters including the Badger Air Community Council (BACC), Together Truax, and the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce.
