National diner chain Denny’s will shutter more underperforming restaurants than it initially planned this year, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The news comes after the company’s October announcement that it planned to close 150 restaurants by the end of 2025.
Denny’s closed 88 restaurants in 2024, which, combined with this year’s closures — an additional 70–90 restaurants — could bring the total to as much as 178. Meanwhile, Denny’s opened 14 franchised restaurants and remodeled 23 in 2024 and said it plans to open between 25–40 restaurants this year. These include both Denny’s and Keke’s Breakfast Cafe locations; it acquired Keke’s in 2022.
The company operates 1,323 restaurants across the U.S. and has 23 locations in Wisconsin — none of which were affected by the 2024 closures. Denny’s hasn’t yet announced which 70–90 restaurants it plans to shut down.
