Following a scathing report from the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau that exposed the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.’s (WEDC) failure to track loan repayments, verify job-creation numbers, or follow state law and its own policies in granting aid, Democrats in the state Legislature are saying they would like to take away the governor’s power to hire and fire top WEDC officials. The Democrats would like to give more power to the 15-member WEDC board – which is currently chaired by Walker – allowing it to elect its chairman and hire the CEO, COO, and CFO.
