A new village engineering study found that the proposed DeForest data center project could account for nearly 15%, or 125,000 gallons per day, of the village’s total water usage, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.
The QTS Data Centers project will cover 650 acres and use 45.6 million gallons annually.
QTS said it will need about five million gallons of water for its five buildings on site to initially fill them for cooling, but claimed there will be no effect on water users.
Water usage is just one of the concerns residents have when it comes to data center projects, as the environmental effects of the large projects have not been thoroughly researched.
