The latest research from Wisconsin Policy Forum found that no state has seen a greater decline in the share of its workforce that is unionized in the last two decades than Wisconsin. While nearly all U.S. states have seen a decline in the concentration of their workforce that is unionized over the last two decades, Wisconsin has had the steepest drop. In 2000, 17.8% of all employed Wisconsinites were members of a union, which made up the 10th highest concentration in the country. By 2021, that figure fell to 7.9%, ranking Wisconsin below the national average of 10.3% and placing the state 28th in the nation. Over the 10 years studied, the 9.9 percentage point drop for Wisconsin was the largest of any state for that period.
