Dean Health Plan has named Ron Parton, MD, as its new chief medical officer.

Parton is joining Dean Health Plan from Presbyterian Health Plan in New Mexico, where he was chief medical officer for the past three years. In this role, he co-led the clinical quality program and was the lead health plan representative in the development of population health strategies to meet company clinical quality and medical performance targets.

Having served as chief medical officer at Physicians Plus Insurance Company from 2001–09, Parton is familiar with the Madison market. He was also the CEO and co-founder of Madison-based Symphony Care Solutions, which developed population health and care management systems to support patient-centered medical homes and to help accountable care organizations achieve the goal of proactively improving the care for at-risk populations and reducing medical costs.

Parton begins his role at Dean Health Plan on August 17, 2015.
