Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) is seeking community donations to raise $5,000 to cover the cost of caring for two bobcats from the Verona area, which have been at the DCHS Wildlife Center for the last six months.
In Business Madison reported on the Wildlife Center in 2017, noting its unique efforts to care for and rehabilitate sick or injured wild animals so they can be released back into their natural habitats.
Feeding the bobcats alone costs $200 per week, according to Lisa Bernard, development & communications supervisor. The Wildlife Center has also worked to design an enclosure according to particular safety specifications. It will require specialized equipment to transport the animals to their release site this spring.
A matching gift from DCHS donors Steven and Margie Holzhueter will double donations up to $2,500 through Friday, Feb. 21. Click here to donate.
