As the partial federal government shutdown leaves roughly 50,000 Transportation Security Administration agents without pay, smaller airports like the Dane County Regional airport may have to temporarily close.
While the airport has not officially been named, the Federal Aviation Administration’s list of 74 U.S. “small hub” airports includes the Dane County Regional and Appleton International airports.
However, Carrie Springer, an airport spokesperson, told the Wisconsin State Journal, “We’re a pretty big small hub,” and would not expect the Madison airport to close.
More than 360 TSA agents nationwide have resigned since the start of the latest shutdown.
Agents have not been paid since the partial shutdown began on Feb. 14.
