Dane County issued an overdose alert on Tuesday — its second in a month — according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
Between 10 p.m. on Sunday and 10 p.m. on Monday, authorities responded to at least six overdoses, two resulting in deaths. That number is twice the three overdoses expected by Public Health Madison and Dane County within a 24-hour period.
The number of overdoses in Dane County has been high for weeks now; the department issued an overdose spike alert May 24 after nine people overdosed and required Narcan treatment; two people died at that time.
The department has advised that residents familiarize themselves with the signs of overdose, carry Narcan, and use fentanyl test strips. It also has a syringe services program at 2705 E. Washington Ave. and 2300 S. Park St. where fentanyl test strip kits are available.
