Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced March 17 a freeze on county hiring effective immediately, according to a story by the Wisconsin State Journal.

The hiring freeze does not apply to roles critical to the ongoing coronavirus response, such as  janitorial positions and sheriff deputies. Key revenue sources have been drained from the county’s budget amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
