The Dane County Humane Society’s wildlife rehabilitation center officially opened its newest addition after under a year of construction, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The Roger Werndli Memorial Solar Flight Pen will be dedicated to the rehabilitation of Injured snowy owls, eagles, and other large birds.

The organization has treated over 100 injured bald eagles in the last decade, but rehabilitation has been finished elsewhere due to space constraints. The previous flight pen was half the size of the new one and did not meet the 100-foot space requirement for many species.

The 100-foot structure is powered by solar panels, and an additional 35 panels have been installed on the Wildlife Center treatment building, which runs a hybrid system for energy with solar power and batteries.
