Active home listings in Dane County fell to their lowest number in seven years in December, which is good news for sellers but could cost buyers more. According to a report published in the Wisconsin State Journal, inventory for homes and condos fell to a four-month supply on Dec. 31. A year earlier, the supply was 5.9 months. A balanced market is generally considered to be a six-month supply.

On Dec. 31, 2013, there were 2,459 combined home and condo listings, down 411 from December 2012 (-14.3%). The number of single-family homes on the market (1,749) dropped 10.3% year over year, while active condo listings (710) fell by 201 units for a 22.8% decline.
